In the candy business, speed, quality and design all play an important role in a company’s success. So when Cadbury Adams USA LLC planned a new Science and Technology Center they sought an enclosure system that could meet these divergent needs.
Originally, architect PS&S called for conventional brick and mortar construction for Cadbury’s new 148,000-square-foot facility.
Luke Gong, an architect at PS&S Engineering, switched to precast of the recommendation of his construction manager.
The quick erection time offered by the CarbonCast® High Performance Insulated Wall Panels appealed to the company.
Faster erection time decreased the amount of weather-related setbacks for the construction team. This allowed subcontractors to work on site sooner.
C-GRID® derives fully composite action between the inner and outer 3” wythes. Sandwiched between was 4” edge-to-edge XPS foam insulation that resulted in an R-16 insulation value.
Carbon fiber’s relatively low thermal conductivity creates an even insulation profile that eliminates hot or cold spots, lowering the heating and cooling costs of the building.
CarbonCast® High Performance Insulated Wall Panels suit both logistics and aesthetics. Architectural interest was created on the exterior of the building by utilizing a ribbed finish.
In addition, window punches were created where the architects sought natural light for office areas. The interior space was treated with a food-grade quality trowel finish, removing the final step of painting to saved additional time and costs.
Use of CarbonCast® High Performance Insulated Wall Panels resulted in the project’s completion two months ahead of schedule.
“We were very happy with the results and are considering it for future projects,” said Gong when describing CarbonCast® wall panels.
