Brief illustrates continuous insulation and sealing requirements for ASHRAE 90.1
AltusGroup, a partnership of 21 innovation-focused North American precasters, has published a technical brief explaining continuous insulation and air sealing requirements and techniques for building envelopes in order to meet ASHRAE 90.1 requirements and realize energy savings in buildings.
The brief discusses the evolution of energy standards in building codes, illustrating their variability across different climate zones. A climate zone map and an appendix for climate zone-specific thermal insulation requirements are provided.
The five-page PDF shares minimum R-values for buildings and explains the benefits of continuous air barriers to effectively seal joints, gaps, and penetrations, decreasing high building envelope air leakage.
Several other AltusGroup technical briefs are available on topics including acoustic properties, insulation, rain barriers and rain screens, and thermal efficiency.
