Rapid site erection is no match for CarbonCast
It took just 14 days to deliver and erect the CarbonCast® High Performance Insulated Wall Panels on all three buildings of the $4 million, 109,000 sq. ft. Armed Forces Reserve Center, San Marcos, Tex., despite limited site access.
The United States Army Corps of Engineers chose a fully integrated, design-build approach with use of a total precast building system including solid walls, columns, beams, double tees and hollowcore. Additionally, about 54,000 sq. ft. of innovative CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels with C-GRID® epoxy-coated carbon fiber grid for shear transfer were incorporated. Each panel is comprised of two concrete wythes separated by 3-1/2″ of EPS insulation for continuous insulation that delivers a steady state R-14 value.
As a result, time and cost savings were realized in both the design and construction phases of the project. This energy efficient building which will maintain its durability for an extending building lifecycle, was also designed to achieve LEED Silver certification and meet U.S. Army Anti-Terrorism, Force Protection (ATFP) requirements as federally mandated.
The compound will serve as a training facility for U.S. Army Reserves and Texas National Guard units.
