Two CarbonCast projects win 2011 PCI Design Awards

Two AltusGroup precast manufacturers—Metromont Corporation, Hiram, Ga., and High Concrete Group LLC, Denver, Pa.— were awarded 2011 PCI Design Awards for structures using thermally efficient CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels.

George Spence, Metromont Corporation and John Carson, Chomarat N.A. accept "Best All Precast Solution" 2011 PCI Design Award for Tucker High School, Tucker, Ga.

The $66 million, 340,000 square-foot, Tucker High School, Tucker, Ga., that won “Best All Precast Solution” incorporates CarbonCast® High Performance Insulated Wall Panels that are fully structurally composite with continuous insulation without compromising aesthetics as an all-in-one building enclosure.

“…What caught my eye was that they were able to combine so many ideas into one panel. In other words, they had the architectural finish on the outside, which contributed to a very aesthetically pleasing building. And, they had the insulation built in as a structural element, which was a really efficient use of an exterior wall system,” said judges.

Similarly, the $10 million, 40,000-square-foot Indiana University Innovation Center, Bloomington, Ind., a co-winner for “Best Higher Education/University Building,” chose CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels due to their thermal efficiency, speed of erection, scalability and low cost.

“What the jury liked about this building was its use of precast, one, for its formability and two, for its ability to meet sustainability goals and some LEED® standards.”
